The competition is officially included in the celebration of the 34th days of Japanese culture in Bulgaria. The marathon is called "Ekiden" from the Japanese hieroglyphs "eki" - point, and "den" - surrender, and supports team spirit and play. Relay marathons are extremely emotional and are one of the most popular competitions in the world of athletics. In various countries, these runs have different names, but the organizers of the Bulgarian race prefer the classic "Ekiden" - as a sign of respect for the Japanese tradition. For the first time, a relay marathon is held in Japan.
